Logical sequence of activities

Dependencies describe the relationship between two or more sequential activities. These relationships determine in which order the project team needs to complete the activities. Thus, the project manager needs to identify the dependencies between activities in order to draw up the project schedule.

There are four types of dependencies:

  1. End to start: Activity B can’t start until activity A is finished
  2. Start to start: Activity B can only start if activity A has already started
  3. End to end: Activity B can only finish if activity A has finished
  4. Start to end: Activity B can’t finish until activity A starts

These dependencies are often visualized in a critical path
