Student Intern Clara at Work at InLoox

What is it like to intern in marketing at InLoox? From AI-powered content creation to SEO and project management, discover my tasks, experiences, and key takeaways.

What does a typical workday in the marketing department of a software company actually look like? During my internship at InLoox, I had the chance to find out exactly that. As part of my academic training, I was given the opportunity to support the marketing team at InLoox, collaborate on real tasks and projects, and gain comprehensive insight into the field.

My responsibilities ranged from creating a video tutorial to updating help and documentation content, as well as working on various content-related topics. In the process, I not only gained in-depth experience with the project management software InLoox, but also explored topics such as content marketing, search engine optimization, and the use of artificial intelligence in day-to-day work.

Above all, the internship showed me just how versatile marketing can be in a software company—and how closely content, technology, and project management are intertwined.

From School to a Software Company

Before my internship, I had already gained some initial insights into various areas of business. However, working at a company that develops and markets its own software was something new for me.

InLoox develops project management software that enables companies to centrally organize projects, tasks, documents, and resources, among other things. I found the integration with Microsoft 365 and Outlook particularly interesting, since many companies use these programs on a daily basis anyway.

So at the start of my internship, I first had to familiarize myself with InLoox. After all, to create content about a product or explain certain features to users, you first need to understand how the product works and what problems it’s designed to solve in everyday work.

That’s exactly what kept coming up throughout my internship.

What do you do during a marketing internship at InLoox?

My internship at InLoox wasn’t limited to a single task. Instead, I was able to work on various projects and, in doing so, gain exposure to several areas of digital marketing.

What I found particularly exciting was that I was able to work on tasks independently. Often, I’d start by being given a goal or an existing framework and then had to figure out on my own how to present the content in the most understandable and meaningful way possible.

It quickly became clear to me that good content isn’t simply about producing as much text as possible. The real challenge lies in presenting information in a way that’s quickly understandable, up-to-date, and helpful for the target audience.

Creating a Video Tutorial

One of my most interesting tasks was creating a video tutorial for InLoox. The tutorial was intended, for example, to clearly explain how to invite users and assign licenses.

Before I could actually create the video, I first had to familiarize myself with the relevant process in InLoox. I then planned the flow of the tutorial and adapted the existing script.

In doing so, I had to make sure to formulate the individual steps as concisely and clearly as possible. What seems obvious when using the software yourself can quickly become confusing in a guide if an important intermediate step is missing.

Making Technical Content Accessible

Another focus of my internship was working on the InLoox documentation.

Software is constantly evolving. As a result, instructions, screenshots, or technical information can become outdated over time. My tasks therefore included reviewing existing content and making updates.

For example, I worked on information related to the InLoox Modern add-in, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft 365. I also reviewed existing screenshots and replaced them with current images as needed.

This taught me to view content more from the user’s perspective. Instead of just asking, “Is this information correct?”, it also became important to ask, “Will someone who is encountering this topic for the first time understand this information?”

Content Marketing: More Than Just Writing Text

During my internship, I also gained a better insight into working with website and marketing content.

I realized that there’s much more to a good online article than just the actual writing. Topics need to be researched, information structured, and content tailored to different search intentions.

Search engine optimization also plays a role. An article should contain relevant keywords and be structured in a way that search engines can understand. At the same time, it must, above all, be readable for people.

With the increasing use of AI search engines and AI Search, another aspect comes into play: content should answer questions as clearly as possible, explain contexts, and structure information clearly.

I found it particularly interesting to see how this is changing traditional content marketing. Instead of simply including keywords as often as possible in a text, the quality and clarity of the entire content have become the most important factors.

How Project Management Related to My Internship

Of course, the topic of project management also played an important role during my time at InLoox.

Before I started at InLoox, I mainly associated project management with large projects, schedules, and to-do lists. Over the course of my internship, however, it became clear to me that project management is much more comprehensive in day-to-day work.

Even smaller tasks require a clear structure: What is the goal? What information and materials are needed? Which steps need to be prioritized? And when is a project truly complete?

This made project management much more tangible for me.

Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Work

One topic that ran through various tasks during my internship was artificial intelligence.

Especially in marketing, many new opportunities are currently emerging to use AI for research, brainstorming, or content production. At the same time, I learned that results cannot simply be accepted without verification.

Particularly with specialized or technical content, information must be verified, wording adjusted, and content tailored to the respective target audience.

It was therefore particularly interesting for me to see that the meaningful use of AI is less about completely delegating a task. It’s much more important to know where AI can provide support and where human oversight and personal understanding remain necessary.

In my opinion, this skill will play an increasingly important role in many professions in the future.

Insight into Different Areas of a Company

In addition to my own marketing tasks, it was also interesting for me to see how different departments within a software company work together.

For example, marketing can only properly explain a product if information about its features and new developments is available. At the same time, content must address the questions and problems that actual or potential users have.

Interacting with other departments—such as sales, development, and support—therefore helped me better understand the interconnections within a company.

Instead of viewing individual departments in isolation, I learned how closely their work is interconnected and how they depend on one another.

What I Took Away from My Internship at InLoox

During my internship, I not only got to know new programs and ways of working, but also learned a great deal on a personal level.

Working independently was particularly important to me. I first had to familiarize myself with topics, research information, and then decide how best to carry out the task.

At the same time, I learned how important feedback is in the work process. Especially with content or videos, another person often notices things that you yourself no longer see, even after spending a long time on a project.

My perspective on marketing has also changed. Before the internship, I associated marketing more closely with advertising and social media. Today, I see many more areas involved: content, SEO/GEO, videos, website content, user communication, data, software, and, increasingly, artificial intelligence.

My Conclusion on the Internship at InLoox

My internship at InLoox gave me a multifaceted insight into the workings of a software company and, in particular, into the field of marketing.

I especially appreciated that I wasn’t just an observer—I was able to take on my own tasks and produce tangible results. From AI-powered video tutorials to updating the media on the website, the projects were very diverse and thus showed me different aspects of marketing.

At the same time, I gained a better understanding of the role project management plays in day-to-day work and how important clear, understandable content is for a software company. I was particularly impressed by the project management software, which I was able to actively incorporate into my daily work.

For me, the internship was therefore not just an opportunity to gain practical professional experience. It also helped me figure out which tasks suit me best and which areas I can envision for my future career.
