After installing InLoox Web App, I receive a certificate warning when I open it. How can I fix this?


System requirements:

Certificate information

Nowadays, modern browsers only classify connections on the Internet as trustworthy if they are encrypted via HTTPS. This always requires a SSL certificate. An unencrypted connection via HTTP would technically also be possible. However, we strongly advise against this, especially if the InLoox Web App should be accessible via the Internet.

To enable basic encryption via HTTPS, the InLoox setup installs a so-called self-signed certificate. This enables encryption via HTTPS, but it is marked as untrustworthy. The reason for this is that a certificate must always be issued for the URL under which the website is accessed. In addition, the certificate must be signed by a trusted publisher. Both points are not given with the certificate installed by default. This can be solved by using a certificate from an official certification authority (e.g. StartSSL, Comodo/Sectigo, DigiCert, GeoTrust, etc.).

Alternatively, it is also possible to use a self-created certificate. This (or the signing root certificate) must then be installed on all PCs in the company as a trusted root certificate.

Certificate setup

As soon as you have a valid SSL certificate for the corresponding URL, you can import it. Either in the server's certificate management or directly in the IIS Manager.

1. To integrate a certificate in the IIS Manager, search for "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager" in the Windows Start menu. Here, select the appropriate server in tree structure on the left-hand side and then double-click to select "Server Certificates"

2. In the following window, select "Complete Certificate Request..." on the right-hand side. In the dialog that now follows, select your certificate file and assign a name for it. Then select "Web Hosting" from the drop-down menu at the bottom and confirm with "OK".

3. Now you have to assign the certificate to a website. First select the "InLoox PM" page. To do this, select "Bindings..." in the right-hand menu area. 

4. Select "Add" or "Edit" if there is already an HTTPS binding.

5. In the following dialog, select the following settings:

  • Typ: https
  • IP address: „None assigned“
  • Port: 443 (The port should only be assigned if no other site on the server uses it)
  • SSL certificate: Your certificate file

6. Close the dialog by clicking "OK". Now the certificate is correctly set up and connected.
